Tradition
Look around you; take a look at the literature; ask around you and everyone will tell you that the devil has horns and is so ugly. They all say that the devil is so ugly and fearful that you cannot stand in front of him!
One of the key characteristics of the devil portrayed by society is that he has horns. This comes from the Greek mythology, particularly the god Pan, who was often portrayed with goat-like features, including horns and hooves. Early Christian writers associated Pan with demonic imagery, reinforcing the idea that horns were a sign of evil. Nowadays, this concept of the devil with horns is widely accepted.
This is the concept that has been built for years, and it is today used to turn our face away from the reality: the devil does not usually have horns! As a matter of fact, he can look as beautiful as a lady, as handsome as a man and no one will run from him if you see him!
The devil does not usually have horns!
The reality is very different when it comes to the devil.
First of all, the devil uses multiple entities to manifest his self. Depending on what he wants to accomplish – which is evil – he will take the shape and form of an entity (that could be human) that fits very well the goal of his mission. This points to the fact that there may be just one devil, but he manifests himself as a multitude of entities.
Secondly, the devil can be and generally is someone like you and me. Do you think if the devil wants to use you for evil, he will appear as a frightful being? No, he will appear as someone that you rapidly relate to and give your full confidence to. This is what we are not told and that is one of the key reasons why we fall pray of the devil all the time!
Thirdly, the devil is a spirit. This means that he can only manifest himself in our dimension by using a body that looks like us! This also means that if you want to be protected from the devil, you need to build your SPIRITUAL DEFENSE. You do not fight the devil in the physical dimension; you fight him at the spiritual level!
Let us see what God’s word says of the devil, also known as satan:
Deceiver – The devil is portrayed as one who misleads and corrupts. In Genesis 3, he appears as a serpent, deceiving Eve into disobeying God.
Liar – Jesus states in John 8:44, "He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
Accuser – In Job 1:6-12, Satan challenges Job’s faithfulness, seeking to test him.
Adversary – 1 Peter 5:8 warns, "Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."
Powerful but Defeated – While Satan has influence, Revelation 20:10 describes his ultimate defeat, stating that he will be cast into the lake of fire.
Now think of it, you now know that that devil is someone like us, he is present through beings like us, he is a spiritual entity. He is a deceiver, adversary, and tempter. All of this points to the key importance of being alert and spiritually ready all the time!
The Good News – GOD IS WITH US!
God’s Word is full of verses that points us to the wonderful news of God’s protection from the devil for anyone that follows Him.
James 4:7 states the following– "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." This means that we need to fully be with God and also build a fence between us and the devil for the devil to run away. It is important here to note that we need to BUILD A FENCE, STAY AWAY FROM THE devil!
2 Thessalonians 3:3 – "But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one." Wow, God will never fail us when it comes to protecting us from the devil. He will even give us the power to protect ourselves! This is so comforting and powerful at the same time! Isaiah 41:10 declares our victory over any evil and asks us not to be afraid – "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
The key here is that we need to BE WITH GOD to benefit from His protection. Remember that we are in a spiritual fight and God is the ONLY ONE to equip us with the weapons for this battle. Jesus already gave us victory at the cross, our role is to sustain that victory throughout our lives by building our relationship with Him and putting on the Armor of God all the time!
Call for Action
We need first to go away from the concept of the devil with horns and know that the devil is far more present than we think – he generally looks like us! This puts us in a constant state of alert.
We then need to get with GOD so we can be protected from the devil and have the necessary weapon to keep the devil away! GOD has given us victory!
At the end of the day, everything boils down to the fact that we need to build our personal relationship with Christ and have Him take control of our security! Remember, only Christ has the tools needed to win this fight against the devil. Therefore, do not go around the world looking for other tools; you shall not find any! Get under God’s umbrella!
God bless you!
Stay tuned...
